THE STORY
Braeden was determined to be born on Wednesday, as he made it by one minute. We had quite the wild ride this time with his birth. We arrived at the hospital delivery room about 10 minutes before he was born. No time for anything, not even for the doctor to get there. The poor nurses were a little frantic, but handled the situation well. He had a short embilical cord, which is pretty rare, so it broke on its own as he was being delivered and caused him a bit of stress, so I didn't get to hold him right away until they made sure he was okay and didn't lose too much blood. Both my girls went past their due dates, so having an early baby caught me by surprise. My labor pains started around 9:00 p.m or so and they weren't that bad, nor were they lasting very long, (although they were coming every 2-3 min. apart) so I kept thinking I had plenty of time. Around 11:00, I even called the on-call doctor to make sure and she thought I could wait it out at home a while longer (since my water hadn't broken yet either). Thankfully, I listened to that little thought in the back of my mind that we needed to leave now. By the time we got out the door, things picked up rather fast and I wasn't feeling too good. I'm afraid that by the time we arrived at the hospital I was yelling. My water broke the moment the nurse checked me and said that there was no time for an epidural (as I kept insisting on one) and that this baby was here. I always thought I was a wimp and could never deliver a baby without pain killers, and I still know I am a wimp as I'd rather get to the hospital in time for an epidural next time! :)
We love our little guy and are excited that he made it safe and sound, and not in the car!

Congratulations!! Braeden is a very cute little man. Glad you made it to the hospital on time and everyone is doing well. All our love.
this is from heidi if you couldn't tell.
He is absolutely gorgeous! That is such a great pic you have of him at the top of your post. What a surprise to have him come so fast and early! But I bet you are so glad...8'8 is a big baby! We can't wait to meet him when we come in Aug--we'll have to get some pics of him and Turin together. After all, they're going to be great friends someday right? :) Congrats, congrats, we are so thrilled for you guys.
Welcome baby Braeden!
Congratulations to the Hawks family! And you have clearly proven to the world that you are not a wimp, Kathryn!! I am proud of you!
Congrats, little sis!!! I'm so happy that the little man showed up 9 days early, for your sake! He's so handsome and I can't wait to meet him when I come out to California in a few weeks!!!
Love ya!
Holy cow, what an experience! Congratulations! He is a cutie. I'm glad you both are doing well. We miss you guys!
What? No epidural! Kathryn, you are amazing! Congratulations on little Braeden. He is adorable. And my goodness, I can't believe how much hair he has. What an adorable family.
Congratulations! He's adorable...and you're amazing! :)
We are so thrilled to have such a handsome Hawks join the family! (What a great way to start the boys off in the family) We are hoping that 2009 is lucky and our little Hawks is just as quick of a birth. Three cheers for cousins!
Love you! Congratulations!
Yay! Wow, look at his hair! That's quite a story. Good job on doing it without pain meds, hope that doesn't happen to me - ha ha! Just kidding, I'd probably be proud of myself. Let me know if you need anything! Congrats!
Wow! I can't believe he came so fast! What an adorable name too! Congratulations!
Congrats! He really is so handsome, too! What a crazy story. I'm glad he wasn't born in the hospital and that everything went well, albeit not according to plan! I hope you are all recovering and adjusting well and we'll watch your blog for more pictures.
I meant "I'm glad he wasn't born in the car" and now that I think about it, on the sidewalk going into the hospital or anything else like that. Glad you made it inside :)
Congrats! I'm so glad he came early! And quickly, although I agree, I'm too much of a wimp to do natural childbirth willingly. Let me know if you need help! We are just a phone call away, finally! :)
Congratulations! So much hair!!! We are so excited for you guys!
Congratulations, Kathryn! He is beautiful!
Crazy story! I'm glad he made it and all is well! He is adorable, I love all of his dark hair! And props to you, I could never give birth without an epidural. You are amazing! Congrats!
Congratulations! I'm so excited that he came early and is doing well; maybe I can make it over to meet him before I leave CA this Friday. He's a cutie.
He is so cute! I can't wait to meet him in person. I'm around all week so feel free to send the girls over to play if you ever need a break!
Congratulations! If you need anything feel free to call!
Wow - what an amazing evening that must have been! I don't care what you say - you are amazing for doing it natural even if you had no other choice. I might've passed out.
Congratulations - little Braeden is beautiful. I am so jealous of all of his hair - Kevin only has hair on the sides and back of his head - like an old man. :)
I can't wait to see you guys again, although who knows when that will be. We'll be in Pleasant Grove for Christmas, but it'll probably be a while before we make it to CA again. We've gotta get these (second) cousins together though!
Well now everyone seems to be in agreement...YOU are one lucky/amazing woman!!!! He is a beauty and sooo glad to see you are both doing great...Let me know when I can come and take the girls out for some play so Mom can rest:) Can't wait to see the little guy.
Btw...I like the name you chose.
Oh my gosh your baby is so cute! And you looked so good at 9 months pregnant!
Seeing this post made me way excited to have our little girl sometime in the next week or two.
